Clinic history

Student volunteers have been the foundation of the Student-Run Free Clinic since 2012 when OutReach, a student organization, was established.

Student leaders in the group lead the collaboration and planning efforts that included engaging an interprofessional team of students, establishing faculty champions, assessing community needs and formalizing the Student-Run Free Clinic concept.

A business plan ― complete with funding and legal requirements, operational needs, a volunteer recruitment plan and a timeline ― was prepared.

In 2016, the SOAR (Student Outreach to the Area Residents) Student-Run Free Clinic held its grand opening.

Operating as a NEOMED clinical initiative, the free clinic was re-branded as Student-Run Free Clinic at NEOMED in January 2021.
