Postdoctoral Research Fellow Honored at National Meeting

The Dysphagia Research Society, devoted to research on swallowing, honored Khaled Adjerid, Ph.D., a postdoctoral research fellow at NEOMED, with third place for his scientific abstract poster presentation at the society’s national meeting.

Titled “The Effect of Automated Milk Delivery on Feeding Performance in Infants,” the poster featured some of Dr. Adjerid’s recent work in the Infant Swallowing Lab of Rebecca German, Ph.D., on how infant feeding is affected by different feeding modes.

Presentations were judged by a panel of senior researchers and clinicians. “Winners of the poster prizes at this national meeting are typically senior faculty, which makes the honor especially significant,” said Dr. German, whose laboratory Dr. Adjerid joined in 2019. This year’s meeting was held virtually, with nearly 700 attendees and more than 175 presentations.

The Dysphagia Research Society Annual Meeting is an opportunity for scientific exchange among clinicians, researchers, residents, physicians, fellows and students from a wide range of disciplines including gastroenterology, neurology, otolaryngology, radiology, speech-language pathology, nutrition, biomedical engineering, dentistry, pediatrics, psychology and the basic sciences, who take care of patients with swallowing disorders – including aspiration – and/or conduct research in the area of deglutition (swallowing) and deglutition disorders.

The Infant Swallowing Lab is housed in NEOMED’s Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology.
