NEOMED Researcher Highlighted by Akron Children’s Hospital
Fayez Safadi, Ph.D., a professor of anatomy and neurobiology and director of Northeast Ohio Medical University’s Musculoskeletal Research Focus Area, is one of several NEOMED faculty researchers who have teamed up with Akron Children’s Hospital.
An Akron Children’s Hospital publication recently highlighted Dr. Safadi’s collaborative role as a senior scientist at Children’s Rebecca D. Considine Research Institute, where he partners in developing treatments for pediatric patients.
Dr. Safadi, whose research focuses on musculoskeletal diseases, regenerative medicine and inflammatory diseases, is currently involved in several collaborations at Children’s:
- With Kirsten Kusumi, M.D. — to identify the relationship between kidney stones and bone loss
- With Mark Adamczyk, M.D., and Dennis Weiner, M.D. — on the role of hormonal changes and bone development
- With Steven Kuerbitz, M.D. — on chemotherapeutics and osteosarcoma
With Ananth Murthy, M.D. — on microtia and cartilage tissue engineering
