Is a Flesh-Eating Bacteria to Fear?

Yikes! A flesh-eating bacteria (Vibrio vulnificus) surfaced in Connecticut’s Long Island Sound this summer and led to five reported cases of infection, according to a press release from the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH).

Richard Watkins, M.D., an infectious disease physician and professor of internal medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, recently discussed Vibrio, a bacteria that has nearly a dozen species and is often found in ocean water, with Health.com.
