Health System Pharmacy Administration Program Changes Ahead
Changes are in store for NEOMED’s Health System Pharmacy Administration program – the program that director Scott Wisneski calls “the MBA of health system pharmacy practice.”
Spurred by conversations with Scott Knoer, Pharm.D., M.S., FASHP, chief pharmacy officer at the Cleveland Clinic ― an early collaborator with the HSPA program to prepare the hospital’s own pharmacy professionals for administrative careers ― the Master of Science degree program is evolving, Dr. Wisneski explains.
“Beginning with the 2019-20 academic year, the HSPA program will be run entirely online, allowing it to reach a broader audience,” says Dr. Wisneski. “We’ll continue our affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic. And we’re excited that Kent State University will help us with the technological support, like a course management system, video hosting and instructional design.”
The 37-hour degree program can be completed as a Master of Science degree or a combined M.S./residency program, requiring a concurrent two-year specialized residency in pharmacy administration at the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus or Akron General Medical Center.
Six faculty members from the College of Pharmacy and 11 adjunct faculty currently teach courses in the program.
