Family Medicine Interest Group and Students Honored by American Academy of Family Physicians
Family Medicine Interest Groups – student organizations at medical schools across the United States – were honored for excellence at the American Academy of Family Physicians National Conference held in July. Northeast Ohio Medical University’s FMIG was among those selected for national recognition in the Program of Excellence Overall category.
The NEOMED group’s student advisor is John Boltri, M.D., chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
The other winners in the Program of Excellence Overall category were Albany Medical College, Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, the University of Iowa, University of Kansas School of Medicine—Wichita, University of Texas Medical Branch and University of Washington WWAMI.
Emerging Leader Institute Scholars Named
Second-year College of Medicine student Michaela Ward, the 2021-2022 Family Medicine Interest Group president, was selected along with Jamie Pandey, a third-year College of Medicine student and former FMIG president, to attend the annual Emerging Leader Institute held in conjunction with the conference. The two students were among a small group chosen nationally by the AAFP for scholarships.
