Endothelial Cell Research Topic of Editor’s Choice Webinar April 28
There is therapeutic value in coronary collateral growth in ischemic heart diseases, but there has been a lack of research on the mechanism of how the collaterals grow and what sparks that growth.
A study by Liya Yin, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues, published in the April 2022 issue of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, provides evidence that sprouting capillaries can become coronary arteries, and short episodes of repetitive ischemia can contribute to that growth.
The article, titled “The Essential Role for Endothelial Cell Sprouting in Coronary Collateral Growth,” was selected as an Editor’s Choice article by JMCC and the International Society for Heart Research, which publishes the journal. Dr. Yin, associate professor in the Department of Integrative Medical Sciences, will present an ISHR-JMCC Editor’s Choice webinar on the work of her lab at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, via Zoom.
