Children, Coronavirus and School

With national, state and local guidance on return to school policies ever-changing in the COVID-19 environment, it can be difficult to imagine what the 2020-2021 school year will look like.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lists tips to help stop the spread of COVID-19 in children, along with steps to protect children, but not crystal-clear advice on how schools and students should return in the fall.

Richard Watkins, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University associate professor of internal medicine who specializes in infectious disease, tells Yahoo Life, “The recommendations will vary based on location and depend on the amount of spread in the community. It is likely to be less safe for kids who live in states where the virus is surging — Florida, Arizona and Texas and others.”

Ultimately, Dr. Watkins says, “nothing is certain at this point.”
