Another Plague on the Way? Don’t Be Too Quick to Worry.

A suspected case of the bubonic plague (the disease that caused the Black Death pandemic) was reported earlier this month in Bayannur, China, which led to social media panic. Will this be the next COVID-19?

Turns out, the bubonic plague is no stranger to the United States and according to Yahoo Life, unlikely to cause another pandemic.

While the disease is typically carried by prairie dogs throughout the Four Corners region of the Southwest, Richard Watkins, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University associate professor of internal medicine who specializes in infectious disease, recently shared with Yahoo Life that, in fact, “There are usually a few human cases from there every year.”
