American Psychiatric Association Honors Northeast Ohio Partnership
The Nord Center FIRST program, a partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University’s Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center, was presented this year’s American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) Silver Award. Three Psychiatric Services Achievement awards (gold, silver and bronze) were made for all of the United States and Canada.
The silver honor was for the FIRST Program of Lorain County. Led by Kathryn Maimone, LISW, FIRST is a comprehensive, outpatient, team-based program aimed at improving the mental health and quality of life for individuals who have experienced a first episode of psychosis, according to a July 8 article in The Morning Journal.
The award was announced in the July issue of the APA’s Psychiatric News.
The BeST Center provides training, consultation and technical assistance to help community mental health agencies provide best practices in schizophrenia treatment.
