Bio
Magdi Awad is an associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). He practices at AxessPointe Community Health Center, a federally qualified health center with five locations in Akron, Barberton, and Kent, Ohio. His responsibilities as the Director of Pharmacy Services at AxessPointe are to provide clinical pharmacy services, oversee the 340B pharmacies, and to precept pharmacy residents along with pharmacy students at his practice site. Dr. Awad received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree and residency training at the University of Minnesota. He completed a fellowship in academic medicine and received his Master of Science in Pharmacy Administration degree at NEOMED.
He is a member of the Ohio MTM Consortium, sponsored by the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Pharmacists Association MTM Task Force, and the Summit County Public Health Refugee Health Task Force. Dr. Awad helped, as a student organization advisor to the Student Outreach to the Area Residents (SOAR), establish the SOAR Student Run Free Clinic on campus.
Dr. Awad was awarded the 30 for the Future Award by the Greater Akron Chamber. This award honors young professionals whose contributions have impacted their industries and the Greater Akron Region. In addition, Dr. Awad was named “Who to Watch in Health Care” by Crain’s Cleveland Business for his contributions to improving the health of the underserved via innovative patient care services.
Area of Expertise/Research Interests
Dr. Awad’s expertise is in ambulatory care services, pharmacy administration, and 340B pricing program.
Dr. Awad has received several operational and research grants related to clinical pharmacy services in the ambulatory care setting. Dr. Awad’s scholarship activity includes published research at peer-reviewed journals and presentations at local and national meetings.
