Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity

The Center of Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity provides behavioral health practitioners with vital information on supporting the population of people identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, two-spirit, and other diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. Through training, coaching, and technical assistance the Center for Excellence on LGBTQ+ Behavioral Health Equity implements change strategies within mental health and substance use disorder treatment systems to address disparities affecting LGBTQ+ people across all stages of life.

The Center of Excellence offers a six-module course to equip behavioral health providers with information and practice tips to improve services for LGBTQ+ people in their care. This self-paced course provides information on terminology, general identity development, disparities among LGBTQ+ populations across the lifespan, and best practices for behavioral health providers.

The six modules include:

  • Exploring SOGIE-Focused Terminology
  • Understanding the Unique Needs of LGBTQ+ People
  • Working with Transgender and Nonbinary Populations
  • Exploration of Intersectionality
  • Addressing Biases within Ourselves, Systems, and Providers
  • Creating a Welcoming Environment: Enhancing Diversity and Non-Discrimination Policies and Practices
