Student Research Symposium will be Friday, Nov. 19
Research in topics ranging from medical devices and therapeutics to social determinants of health will be on display Friday, Nov. 19, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Student Research Symposium. Registration is open through Wed., Nov. 17, for this online event, which offers participants the opportunity to chat with the student researchers and ask questions.
Nearly 130 students will present their work this year.
The student-organized event has been developed by the Committee for Student Research, led by co-presidents Raman Bhambra (a second-year College of Medicine student) and Divya Melachuri, a fourth-year College of Medicine student.
A sampling of the topics:
- “The effect of the ACTN3 gene on hindlimb muscle mass and bone strength,” by Vershuqa Andrade (M1); Peter Houweling, Ph.D.; and Jesse Young, Ph.D.
- “Health professions students’ perceptions of and experiences with philanthropy,” by Vindya Perera (P3), M.P.H., and Mary E. Fredrickson, Pharm.D.
- “Health Literacy, Perceptions, and Preferences for Muslims: Mosque-Based Study in Central Ohio,” by Noralhuda Alhashim (M1); Sondos Al Sad, M.D.; and Mahmoud Abdel-Rasoul, M.S.
