Medicine Student Appointed to Region 5 of the AMA Medical Student Section
Third-year College of Medicine student Rommel Morales has been appointed to a one-year appointment serving Region 5 – the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia – of the American Medical Association Medical Student Section (AMA-MSS).
Morales said that the vice chair assists in facilitating communication and organization between the AMA and the medical school chapters; helps to develop relationships between medical school members and physician members of state associations; reviews and improves the annual bylaws; oversees, reviews and distributes regional working committees; and (most important) organizes and leads the annual Physicians of the Future Summit.
The AMA Medical Student Section consists of seven regions, each with its own chair, vice-chair and supplemental chairs. Students who wished to be considered for regional positions submitted applications. At the conclusion of the annual AMA-MSS meeting in June, the Region 5 delegation met to vote on candidates, based on their applications.
Terms began in June and will end with the June 22, 2022 election.
