Proyecto RAICES a Health Disparities Project Winner

When Akron Beacon Journal reporter Betty Lin-Fisher received a health reporting grant of $3,000 from the Cleveland based Center for Community Solutions, she decided to redistribute the money to address the issue of racism as a public health crisis.

Now, three Summit County programs have each been named as winners of $1,000 apiece, selected by a group of Northeast Ohio judges that included Amy Lee, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., a professor of family and community medicine and the program director for the Consortium of Eastern Ohio Master of Public Health program.

One of the winners is Proyecto RAICES, a program that serves Hispanic and Latino youth in Akron and plans to work with NEOMED students for its bilingual healthy food project.
