NEOMED Associate Professor Weighs In on Return to School

Earlier this month, the American Academy of Pediatrics announced that it “strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school,” sparking debates among educators, parents and health care professionals.

Richard Watkins, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University associate professor of internal medicine who specializes in infectious disease, tells Yahoo Life, “It is hard to predict what conditions will be like in two to three months.”

Dr. Watkins notes that if in-person school does resume in the fall, students and staff “should be encouraged to social distance, wear masks and wash their hands frequently.”
