The Case of COVID-19 and Weight Loss
A recent Prevention article details the story of a nurse who spent six weeks on a ventilator battling COVID-19. During that time of inactivity, he lost 50 pounds.
Richard Watkins, M.D., a Northeast Ohio Medical University associate professor of internal medicine who specializes in infectious disease, tells Prevention readers, “It’s not uncommon to lose a little weight when you’re sick. Weight loss is common when the body is under a lot of stress, as is the case with a COVID-19 infection.”
