Dr. Allamby Recounts His Journey to Becoming a Physician
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Medicine graduate Carl Allamby, M.D. (’19), delivered the keynote address at the Akron Urban League’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, held Monday, Jan. 20.
A recent article in the Akron Beacon Journal describes Dr. Allamby’s story, which includes working as a mechanic, owning his own car repair shop and earning his way through medical school and now, serving as an emergency medicine resident at Cleveland Clinic Akron General.
“Coming from an economically deprived school, having a former successful career, being older, having four children and a grandchild or just being an African-American male: Any of these obstacles could have prevented me from obtaining my dream. I am here today as a result of the community of people who have walked with me in my never-ending quest to build a better tomorrow,” he told the Akron Beacon Journal.
