Health-System Pharmacy Administration Program: Filling the Workforce Gap

As many as half of all health-system pharmacy administrators are projected to retire in the next 10 years — and a Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) program is designed to fill the gap.

The program provides leadership and management training in health-system pharmacy administration (HSPA). Starting in Fall 2019, NEOMED’s HSPA Master of Science degree program will be completely online.

Scott Wisneski, Pharm.D., who leads the program, says it offers the added professional training needed to meet the ever-changing responsibilities and challenges faced by today’s and future health-system pharmacy administrators.

Strong collaborators

NEOMED will maintain academic, administrative and financial services, including admissions, for the online program. Kent State University will help provide technological support services, such as a course management system, video hosting and instructional design. The classes will be taught by NEOMED faculty.

The Cleveland Clinic has partnered with NEOMED to train its pharmacy students since the inception of the College of Pharmacy, and it looks forward to increased collaboration with the College and its dean, Richard Kasmer, Pharm.D., J.D., says Scott Knoer, Pharm.D., FASHP, chief pharmacy officer at the Clinic.
