Categories: College Update, Student PrideThe College of Pharmacy has consistently participated in an annual medication adherence awareness campaign hosted by the National Consumers League entitled “Script Your Future” since its’ inception in 2011. As a participant in the competition, this student-led effort has led NEOMED to take home seven National Awards, including the following:
- 2014: Communication and Media Outreach Award
- 2015: Communication and Media Outreach Award
- 2016: Health Disparities/Under-represented Community Outreach
- 2017: National Challenge, Health Disparities/Under-represented Community Outreach, and Communication and Media Outreach Awards
- 2019: Health Disparities/Under-represented Community Outreach Award
The 2019 campaign, led by student pharmacist Shivali Singh, focused on reaching out to patients with respiratory health conditions in the Northeast Ohio community.
With a focus on caring for the community, the College of Pharmacy will continue to provide adherence-focused outreach during the 2020 campaign. This year’s student leaders, Ikenna Ogwuegbu and Virginia San Juan, have started working on plans to incorporate their interprofessional training into practice. The student leaders are working on connections with local underserved, behavioral health, and Latino population locations to design interventions that address the Social Determinants of Health that are often barriers to medication adherence.
