Family & Community Medicine

Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Family and Community Medicine.

Our diverse faculty and staff include more than 400 volunteers in the northeast Ohio community who are passionate about training the healthcare leaders of the future.  Members of our faculty provide training for medicine and pharmacy students; graduate students in public health, bioethics, social and behavioral sciences; and family medicine residents through our many affiliate hospitals. We also teach the interprofessional curriculum in community health for medical and pharmacy students at NEOMED.

We teach across all aspects of the curriculum in all four years of medical school including:

  • Public Health
  • Community Health
  • Introductory psychosocial clinical medicine
  • Numerous electives and research opportunities
  • Humanities
  • Ethics
  • Geriatric Medicine
  • Palliative Care

We are also home to a number of programs that have made significant contributions to the northeast Ohio community which include:

The annual William Carlos Williams Poetry Competition allows our medical students creative competition while entertaining fellow students, faculty and staff. Students also give back to the community by visiting with kindergarten through high school students as well as becoming personally involved in activities with our geriatric family.
