Post-Baccalaureate Early Assurance Nomination & Application

The early assurance plan reserves a future seat in medical school at NEOMED. Prospective students interested in post-baccalaureate early assurance should consider the following guidance as they begin to explore this option:

• Visit the Cleveland State University Pathways to Practice website to learn more about the CSU preparation program including important deadlines. Eligibility for future early assurance plan nomination to enroll at NEOMED begins with enrollment at Cleveland State University. Early assurance is not a dual admission plan but occurs in two phases: nomination and application for admission.
• Visit the Mission, Vision, and Values for the NEOMED College of Medicine. Candidates for early assurance are evaluated through the mission, vision, and value of the college, particularly with respect to NEOMED seeking to improve the health and quality of life of the communities of Ohio and beyond, including those both diverse and underserved. 
• All early assurance candidates are first nominated for early assurance through their cooperating university in the early assurance network. This nomination process includes early assurance post-baccalaureate students who will be nominated by Cleveland State University.
• Following nomination, all candidates will interview with NEOMED. Should the interview and credential screening result in the nominated candidate receiving future early assurance privileges to apply to NEOMED, the candidate will first enroll at Cleveland State University.
• After enrolling at Cleveland State University and showing evidence of successfully completing prescribed coursework, candidates with early assurance must apply to NEOMED through AMCAS using the early assurance plan for the designated year no later than September 1st of the year prior to the designated year of matriculation to NEOMED.
• Following successful application to NEOMED through AMCAS, candidates must meet the early assurance plan admission standards for post-baccalaureate students associated with their designated application year. Admission standards are subject to change. Please visit the most recent edition of the NEOMED Compass for complete details including admission standards. Admission standards include minimum requirements for grade point average (GPA), “BCPM” grade point average (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics), and MCAT score. Note: the MCAT is not waived for NEOMED early assurance students. 
• Candidates should be aware that starting in 2025 and fully adopted for 2026 that all NEOMED early assurance plan students will complete a one-year master’s degree program prior to matriculating into the NEOMED Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) program. This includes post-baccalaureate candidates from Cleveland State applying through the early assurance plan.
• All applicants for post-baccalaureate early assurance must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States (or a Canadian University) prior to starting post-baccalaureate coursework.
• All applicants for post-baccalaureate early assurance must be citizens of the United States of America or hold legal permanent resident status in order to be admitted into the M.D. program.
• All applicants for post-baccalaureate early assurance must successfully complete the prerequisite courses for the M.D. program applicable to all admission plans.
