Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine
A research cluster within the Heart and Blood Vessel Disease Research Focus Area, the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine cluster is comprised of nine researchers.
Stem cell therapy has become a promising approach to regenerative medicine. Regenerative medicine is an emerging field with the goal of replacing or repairing human tissues, or organs in a pathological setting. Research in this cluster ranges from basic processes of stem cell biology to the testing of clinical therapies in patients. The laboratories of our faculty are focusing on the following areas:
- The signaling to recruit and enhance the body’s own populations of stem cells (endogenous stem cells) to the site of injury.
- Molecular mechanisms of stem cell-based cardiovascular repair
- Engineering approaches to enhance stem cells reparative capabilities.
- The use of IPS cell-based model systems to study human disease.
